A great climb for Italy, which in just five years went from sixth to first place and reached the top in Europe for the number of congresses hosted. Our country is the top destination in Europe for congresses and conventions hosted in the year 2023, according to the annual report of ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) published in these days.
The milestone achieved is an absolute first for Italy, and is the result of years of growth in the sector, of a gradual climb from sixth position in the 2018/19 to second position in 2022 to reach the coveted first position in 2023.
In rankings published by ICCA, Italy ranks first in Europe and second in the world, behind only the United States. Ours is the only nation among the top rankings that has increased the number of congresses hosted since 2022; all others have decreased or maintained the number of their congresses. To top the European ranking, Italy overtook Spain, which maintains the second position ahead of France, Germany and the United Kingdom.
“This is a historic result for the sector and the country – comments Carlotta Ferrari, President of the Italian Convention Bureau. If we have reached this milestone, it is also thanks to high-quality coordinated strategies such as our Italian Knowledge Leaders, the program that enhances Italian excellence in academia, medicine, culture and science.”
“An extraordinary milestone – comments Stefania De Toni, Meeting & Event Manager of Padova Congress and member of the national steering committee Federcongressi – an achievement that rewards the entire Italian meetings industry. We are proud to have contributed to achieving a record that for us represents an incentive to work even harder to consolidate and strengthen the results achieved and constantly innovate the services we offer.”
